Pebblestone Fashion Bills of Materials
Production companies need detailed information in Bills of Materials (BOM's) per color and size. Obviously, a larger size requires more fabric than a smaller size. Naturally, for the black finished product black fabric is needed, where the blue version requires blue fabric. A shoe size 12 is equipped with a sole size 12 and the 13 with a sole size 13. All these details are registered in a Bill of Materials per color/size. Even with "just" two collections a year, this will amount to thousands of different BOM's that have to be created one by one. It would of course be unthinkable to actually work in that way.
Pebblestone Fashion solves this problem for you. By simply entering one standard BOM for a chosen color/size combination and adding some smart settings, the program is able to create all the other BOM's by the simple push of a button. The end result is the same, but the effort to get there is made tremendously lower.
Growth percentage and value
In the standard BOM, for each component (fabric, accessories, etc.), the user can indicate a growth percentage or value. These percentages and values will be applied automatically when creating the BOM versions per color/size from the standard BOM. While entering just one consumption value and a growth percentage or value, through this system the planning engine can establish in detail how much is needed of each fabric and accessory.
Inheritance of colors and sizes
Using the standard BOM again, the user can indicate per component whether inheritance should be used. This feature applies in case of a 1:1 situation. For example: A color of the component should be combined with the same color of the finished product. Or a size of the component should be combined with the same size of the finished product. On the basis of just one simple check mark, the planning engine again knows exactly what components are necessary in which colors and which sizes.
BOM conversion tables
In many cases 1:1 relations do not apply. When the finished product is offered in many colors and a specific component is only available in two or three colors for example, a relationship has to be established through the BOM per color/size; this would then capture which color of the component should be used for which color of the end product in a 1:n relation. The same goes for sizes, for example there may be a few lengths of zippers for many different sizes of the end product. Pebblestone Fashion's BOM conversion tables can be used to establish the conversion relations that have a structural character. The result is an accurate planning of the required components, both concerning colors and sizes.
Creation of BOM's per color/size
The "push of the button" is often no more than proverbial. Not in this case! After having defined the standard BOM, chosen the conversion tables that apply and set the correct values for growth and inheritance, the user just chooses the option "Create Production BOM versions" and the system does exactly that: create an individual version of the BOM per color/size of the finished product, with the correct variants of the components.
Processing of BOM information
After having defined the BOM's per color/size, this information is used in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV planning engine. The complete MPS/MRP functionality uses this detailed information to establish exactly which products in which colors and sizes of the various components are needed. Wherever necessary, Pebblestone Fashion offers the possibility to carry out these planning processes at an accumulated level or at least show the resulting information in a summarized view per component.
